More than Half a Million Students Joined ‘Bring Your Bible to School Day’

-

Christian-based group Focus on the Family celebrated ‘Bring Your Bible to School Day’ on October 3 where more than 500,000 students in the US participated.

Now in its sixth year, the movement is an opportunity for children and teens to proclaim and celebrate their faith with their peers at school. Bringing the Bible to a public school is not illegal; it is even protected by the First Amendment.

I want to encourage you to live out your faith on Bring Your Bible to School Day and share God’s love with friends. You’re not alone. —Drew Brees, NFL Saints quarterback

Focus on the Family stated on its website, “That means you can voluntarily express your personal and religious beliefs to your classmates through verbal or written expressions, as long as you follow school policy and do not engage in these activities during classroom or instruction time.”

The Christian ministry asked participants to share their experiences via social media with the hashtag #BringYourBible.

Different personalities partnered with Focus on the Family to promote ‘Bring Your Bible to School Day.’

NFL Saints quarterback Drew Brees released a video encouraging his fans to join the event, reports online Catholic news website, Aleteia. “I want to encourage you to live out your faith on Bring Your Bible to School Day and share God’s love with friends. You’re not alone.”

The 2010 Superbowl champ mentioned his favorite Bible verse, 2 Corinthians 5:7, “for we walk by faith, not by sight,” to inspire kids to be proud of their faith.

Another supporter, veteran stock car driver J.J. Yeley raced a car wrapped in the ‘Bring Your Bible to School Day’ logo and colors during two Xfinity Series races in Richmond, VA and Charlotte, NC. In his Twitter and Instagram accounts, he posted the photo of his race car and asked his young fans to sign up for the event.

“Navigating a racetrack at high speed may take courage,” Yeley said. “But in today’s world, it can take far more courage to be a student and publicly share and live out your faith in school.”

Meanwhile, Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin, posted a video via Twitter encouraging students to participate in the Christian event, reports The Washington Times. “This is an extraordinary book. You don’t even have to be a person of faith to recognize that this is the most well- read, most published book in the history of the world for a reason…. I would encourage you, please let this be a document that is an important part of your life.”
