Evangelist, Franklin Graham is calling Christians across the nation to join him and other leaders in a day of prayer for President Trump this Sunday, June 2.
In his Facebook post, Graham wrote, “This is a critical time for America. We’re on the edge of a precipice,” Graham continued. “Time is short. We need to pray for God to intervene. We need to ask God to protect, strengthen, encourage, and guide the President. We know that God hears and answers prayer. He can soften hearts and change minds. He is all-powerful, and He rules over the affairs of nations. The Bible instructs us to pray for those in authority, ‘that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior’ (1 Timothy 2:2–3).”
“I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:1-4 NLT
About 250 Christian leaders affirmed Graham’s call to prayer, signing a statement in support on the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s website.
Many of the president’s evangelical advisers have signed on to Sunday’s day of prayer, including Dr. James and Shirley Dobson, Jerry Falwell Jr., Jack Graham, Robert Jeffress, and Paula White, who also referenced the 1 Timothy 2:2 verse.
Other faith leaders who have signed on to the day of prayer include John Hagee, pastor of Cornerstone Church and national chairman of Christians United for Israel; former Republican Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee; Martin Luther King Jr.’s niece, Dr. Alveda King; “Duck Dynasty” stars Phil and Al Robertson, and Rev. Sam Rodriguez, the president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference.
Graham is currently touring cities in the Northeast, holding one-night prayer and evangelical gatherings meant to encourage people to “return to the Biblical faith of our fathers.”
“I want the President to know, and to feel, and to understand that the prayers of millions of people are behind him. My prayer is that President Trump will know and understand the power of God in a new way and that he will seek His face as he leads this nation to greatness with God’s help,” said Graham.
