Tomorrow millions of Americans will unite for a common purpose: prayer.
From churches to local businesses to the steps of city halls to neighborhoods, schools, and public gathering places all across the United States of America—in one voice, they will lift a single prayer request and theme of 2019 to God for America: Lord, empower America to Love One Another!
The theme comes from the words of Jesus in John 13:34, “Love one another. Just as I have loved you.”
Did you know the National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman? Each year since its genesis, the president has signed a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day.
President, Donald J. Trump stated the following in his 2019 Presidential Proclamation:
“Americans have always found power and unity through prayer. In 1988, the Congress, by Public Law 100-307, called on the President to issue each year a proclamation designating the first Thursday in May as a “National Day of Prayer.” Today, on this National Day of Prayer, we once again come together to give thanks to Almighty God for the bountiful blessings He has bestowed on our great Nation and to ask for His unfailing counsel. We also acknowledge our dependence on God’s love to guide our families, communities, and our country away from harm and toward abundance and peace.”
The National Day of Prayer is for all Americans. It is a day that transcends differences, humbly bringing together citizens from all backgrounds in prayer before God, seeking His guidance for our leaders and His grace upon us as a people. According to The National Day of Prayer Task Force, it is estimated that over two million people have attended more than 30,000 observances at state capitols, county courthouses, on the steps of city halls, and in schools, businesses, churches, and homes.
Now more than ever, our country is in need of love, prayer, and unity. Will you join with fellow Americans in all 50 states and pray? Click HERE to find an event near you.
