Editor’s Window: Fairy Light Jars and Life

I like to make “crafty” things. It’s neat to come up with ideas and then scour Pinterest for ways to make the perfect DIY project that I see in my mind.

My most recent craft is gathering pieces to make fairy light jars – I can picture them all in a row sitting up on a shelf, glittering with their little twinkling lights and Christmas scenes carefully placed in each one. Figuring out how to make exactly what I want is the fun part. I search store shelves to find the perfect tiny trees and snowmen to go in my little Christmas villages.

Sometimes, though, it’s not easy to find exactly what I’m looking for. When the perfect scene I imagined isn’t coming together so nicely frustration often comes calling.  I don’t like it when I can’t figure something out and I get aggravated. My fairy light dream starts fading a little.

It’s like that when I can’t figure life out sometimes. I have a goal that isn’t as simple as I thought it would be to reach and I don’t like it.

Then I’m reminded that I can’t “lean to my own understanding”.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

What does that mean exactly?

The Bible specifically tells us to lean on God and His wisdom for everything. We were never intended to do life on our own – or even try to figure things out on our own.

I think if we could get that down on the inside of us, life would be easier to navigate. If we truly let the Lord lead and walk in the Spirit, the “craft” of life would be way less stressful. We’re here to do a specific work – not to worry about our daily needs. He’s already got that covered.

We are called to simply rest. Lean on Jesus and just rest.

Trust Him completely with your life today. Don’t worry or fret over anything – He cares about you. He knows exactly what you need before you do and He will take care of you.
