Christians all over the world marked September 1 as the opening of the Season of Creation, a yearly event ending in October 4 that lets people focus on how to protect Mother Earth and combat the climate change.
Tens of thousands of Christians from six continents will organize various activities in their communities to pray for the planet and promote initiatives on how to care for God’s creation. This year’s theme, The Web of Life: Biodiversity as God’s blessing, Christians are called to do little acts for the environment that will give big results in the future.

In the UK, churchgoers will “clean local waterways, plant trees and promote wild areas in churchyards,” reports Premier. Participants are encouraged to share their experience in social media using the hashtag “SeasonofCreation.
Nicholas Holtam, the Bishop of Salisbury, said the fires in the Amazon rainforest show how all are interconnected in this world. “Season of Creation is a chance once again to give thanks for the gifts of creation, to pray and act in ways that care for God’s creation and address the issues of climate change and the depletion of species.”
He added that, “We love the beauty of the earth. We know there are serious issues to address if we are going to care for God’s earth.”
Meantime, Australians will march on September 20 to demand stronger action on climate change, according to Eternity News.
Nicola Fraser, a marine scientist and author of the blog, God’s Beautiful Earth for Common Grace, wrote that everyone must do their part to address the climate change. “Some governments, corporations, organizations and individuals are making positive changes, but not enough, so we need to take more serious action. Citizens need to stand up and show that we care. The alternative scares me witless.”
